indexing, proofreading, and transcription services.
I am an editor and a
librarian, and
in both roles I understand and appreciate the importance of a
proper index. I have worked in type-related jobs for many years, as proofreader,
typesetter, and copy editor. Not only do I maintain my own website for transcribed
historical documents (see below) but as a volunteer I serve as webmaster for
several organizations. Let me use these skills to help your publication be the
best it can be.
Areas of Expertise
Magazines
Chess
I worked in chess-related
publications for nearly twenty years; most recently as Assistant Editor of Chess Life magazine, the publication of
the U.S. Chess Federation, where maintaining the research library was one of my
responsibilities. I began as an indexer by performing that task annually for
the magazine.
Historical Document Transcriptions
Local History
Genealogy
I've transcribed several
200-year-old documents in the possession of the City of Newburgh, New York,
indexed them, and coded them in HTML. They can be viewed at www.newburgh-ny.org
(follow the links to "Historic Documents.") More information on this
project is available from the City Engineer's Office in Newburgh,
engr@frontier.net. In addition, I've indexed such documents transcribed by
others. For these, go to http://town.new-windsor.ny.us or contact the New
Windsor Town Historian at nwhistory@aol.com.

I hold a Master Craftsman
